Remarque
Certains des termes que vous trouvez dans cette liste possèdent d’autres usages (noms, verbes, adverbes, prépositions), avec d’autres significations.
Que sont les adjectifs anglais et pourquoi sont-ils si importants ?
En anglais comme en français, un adjectif désigne un mot qui accompagne et décrit un nom. On l’appelle aussi attribut. Il sert à qualifier un nom, c’est-à-dire à lui donner une information supplémentaire.
Par exemple, dans la phrase This puppy is cute (= Ce chiot est mignon) l’adjectif cute accompagne et décrit puppy. C’est un des types de mots les plus courants en anglais.
Si la grammaire n’est pas votre tasse de thé, voici un autre exemple :
- a coffee = un café
- a hot coffee = un café chaud
- a good coffee = un bon café

Je veux savoir la différence entre les adjectifs courts et les adjectifs longs en anglais. Sans oubliez que votre cours m’avais été important.
En anglais, la distinction entre les adjectifs courts et les adjectifs longs concerne surtout comment tu formes les comparatifs et les superlatifs. Voici comment ça marche :
1. Adjectifs courts (ou adjectifs d’une syllabe) :
La plupart des adjectifs d’une syllabe forment leur comparatif en ajoutant “-er” à la fin et leur superlatif en ajoutant “-est”. Par exemple :
Tall → Taller → Tallest
Small → Smaller → Smallest
Il y a quelques exceptions, comme “fun” qui devient “funner” et “funnest” dans certains contextes informels, bien que “more fun” et “most fun” soient aussi acceptables.
2. Adjectifs longs (généralement de deux syllabes ou plus) :
La plupart des adjectifs de deux syllabes ou plus forment leur comparatif en mettant “more” devant l’adjectif et leur superlatif en mettant “most”. Par exemple :
Beautiful → More beautiful → Most beautiful
Expensive → More expensive → Most expensive
Cependant, il y a des exceptions. Certains adjectifs de deux syllabes peuvent utiliser “-er” et “-est”, surtout s’ils finissent par “-y”, “-le”, ou “-er”. Par exemple :
Happy → Happier → Happiest
Simple → Simpler → Simplest
Clever → Cleverer → Cleverest
Il est donc important que tu te familiarises avec chaque adjectif individuellement, car même si ces règles générales sont utiles, il y a toujours des exceptions en anglais.
N’oublie pas que certains adjectifs, quelle que soit leur longueur, ont des formes irrégulières pour les comparatifs et les superlatifs, comme “good”, “better”, “best” et “bad”, “worse”, “worst”.
